ECOVA: The New Standard in Off-the-Shelf Packaging
Over the past 5 years, we here at Verallia UK have seen a monumental shift in consumer expectations towards sustainability and eco-consciousness. In response to this transformation in public opinion, we knew that a new standard for sustainable off-the-shelf packaging needed to be established.

Sustainability In Off-The-Shelf Packaging: An Expectation Not and Add-On
85% of customers have shifted their purchase behaviour towards more earth conscious choices since 2016, with younger generations (Gen Z) now spreading their greener ideals to the Millennials and Baby Boomers alike. As a result, a significant disconnect has emerged in many industries as brands fail to realise that sustainability is not just a strategic label, but an expectation.
As consumers prioritise sustainability when purchasing, the cues for what constitutes a premium brand have also transformed to fit the new generation. While a heavily weighted glass bottle is used to indicate a premium spirit, many consumers no longer associate this factor with high-class brands, but instead are more likely to look for aesthetic shelf value as a marker of differentiation. Across the UK and global market, we are now seeing attributes such as brand design and bottle embossing becoming the new gauges of premium in the eyes of consumers… so why isn’t the industry taking this opportunity to create innovative and sustainable solutions that better represent the consumer?
Well, now we are.
The Inspiration Behind ECOVA
ECOVA was conceptualised after the success of Verallia Global’s range of the same name. Both of these ranges champion the decarbonisation of glass through high-quality external cullet and reduced weight.
Our off-the-shelf range of glass bottles has always had sustainability at its heart. But, as consumers’ views on sustainability evolve and they demand more from drink brands when it comes to the sustainability of their packaging, we wanted to ensure that we have one of the most sustainable premium spirit bottle options available. Our new ECOVA spirits range is a sophisticated solution for brands that want to push sustainable packaging as much as possible.
Exploring ECOVA
Currently available to our worldwide client base from our UK-based factories, the ECOVA spirits range features four new glass bottle designs whose compositions primarily comprise high-quality, sustainable sourced cullet. The glass bottles join the wider Verallia portfolio, which has sold over 20 billion eco-conscious bottles and jars worldwide to date.
In addition to this, each design is cut with no dividers, enabling more bottles to be efficiently packed per pallet. Not only reducing your waste through higher recycled content, but also reducing your transport carbon footprint per bottle.
Meet our newest additions:
Vita: Inspired by traditional sake bottles, the rounded shape lends itself perfectly to rum, sake, and whisky.
Patet: Tall and slender with a timeless silhouette, it looks superb on a back bar and sits flawlessly in the well.
Terra: The short and contemporary shape makes it an ideal go-to for showcasing any spirit.
Caeli: Tall, modern, and easy to handle for the on-trade, it’s a natural choice for any spirit in a busy bar.
Why the ECOVA is for you!

Whether you’re an up and coming distillery looking for a beautiful bottle to build your brand on, or an established drink brand needing high-quality design to develop new SKUs, the range allows you to align with your customer’s sustainability values without sacrificing style.
