Meet the Maker – Quality Control
As we continue to highlight our stellar team members and put a face to the Verallia name with our ‘Meet the Maker’ series, we are moving down the production line to meet Mihaela Dobra, who works within our Quality Control Department. Mihaela works to ensure that our output is of the best quality so is integral to our daily operations.
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Mihaela Dobra, I’m originally from Romania and I’ve been working for Verallia (formerly Allied Glass) since 2016.
What department of Verallia do you work in? What activities go on in this area?
I work for the Quality Department; this is the area where we make sure that all the containers are manufactured in accordance with the specifications given. This is done through quality control tests, which are performed on all manufactured ware following established test procedures.
Can you explain your job role at Verallia? What does your typical day look like?
My day starts with collecting the glass from all the machines in production before getting them all back to lab to start conducting all tests needed. As an example of established tests, we start with the capacity of the containers and then look into annealing and coating checks which are done for all containers.
What do you enjoy the most about working at Verallia?
The best part of Verallia is that you become part of the team very quickly and are always seen as a valued employee, which gives you buckets of confidence to move forward in your job role.
What do you find the most challenging part of your role is?
The most challenging part is when I need to make a decision based on the result of a test, which will not always be in line with other departments, but at the end of the day, I am the one who must take full responsibility for it. Verallia is committed to the very highest quality glass containers.
What trends do you see happening within the glass industry?
I could say that there has been continuous growth over the past few years and the market is increasingly in need of more and more glass. This is great for sustainability and the environment because of how good the recycling process for glass is.
What is the most exciting project you have worked on?
I couldn’t say that I have a favourite. Within my job role I need to treat all projects equally as part of the quality control process.
What is your go to drink?
My go to drink is definitely red wine, I would absolutely call myself a wine lover.
