Glass Packaging Trends for 2025
First impressions count. Which is why packaging is such an integral part of your spirit brand. Research suggests that you only get 7 seconds to make a first impression, however packaging gets a fraction of the time to captivate the consumer. The spirit sector has become increasingly competitive, standing out among competitors has never been so important. Product packaging should set the tone of your product and resonate with your target audience, as 81% of consumers will purchase a new product purely because of its standout packaging.
With the needs of consumers rapidly evolving, 2025 sets a new standard for creating premium glass packaging. This is glass packaging reimagined.
Sustainable Glass Packaging: The Future is Now
Conscious consumerism is sweeping the market, where consumers look to partake more in ethical consumerism. This shift focuses on areas such as ethics and sustainability, where consumers make their purchase decisions based on the effects of their choices. For modern consumers, sustainability is no longer optional, but pivotal to reducing environmental impact.
Verallia is dedicated to creating sustainable glass packaging. Our team developed our ECOVA range as an off-the-shelf packaging option for spirit brands looking to implement greener packaging. Weighing just 500g, the five bottles included in this range are some of the lightest cork mouth bottles in Europe. Our expert team has created a selection of five optimised shapes that are designed to fit together in crates without additional filler. Each edition of our range is composed from over 50% recycled glass cullet, reducing the use of raw material and energy consumer in manufacturing.
Our team ensures that sustainability comes with style. Each of our ECOVA bottles can be elevated with decoration, customised to reflect your brand’s unique look. We offer decoration such as colour coating, window painting, and screen painting, creating an opulent look to establish your product among competitors.
Contemporary Design: Tell Your Story
2025 holds a new era of design in the spirit sector. Going beyond the aesthetics, design in the spirit sector is a valuable tool to tell a story, convey a lifestyle or evoke an emotion in the consumer.
New themes are emerging for design this year, one of which is: inspired by nature. Many spirits use botanicals or other natural elements to produce their product, such as gin, which is traditionally from juniper berries. Showcasing the natural elements at the roots of the product has become a popular design choice for some spirit brands.
Collaborating with Verallia for their bespoke bottle design, The Secret Garden Distillery is a prime example of contemporary design using nature as the inspiration. This distinctive bottled featured an embossed window, framed by a wreath of juniper. The design works to invite consumers into their idyllic garden in Scotland, home to over 600 botanicals that are used to infuse their gins.
“I would describe the bottle shape as being down to Earth, it feels very natural and organic. It’s a little misshapen, so it’s not a perfect cylinder this choice was to replicate what you would find in nature.” – Isobel Armstrong, Director at The Secret Garden Distillery.
Creating a Customer Experience with Glass Packaging
Packaging today can provide value for consumers by creating an exclusive, premium experience. The customisable nature of glass packaging allows brands to create a quality customer experience with ease. 82% of purchase decisions are made in-store, and so packaging must convey a sense of quality at first glance.
Glass packaging become a canvas for an all-round experience. Sumptuous designs, evocative text, and a streamlined silhouette creates a sense of opulence for consumers. However, the experience can go beyond the eye. Spirit brands are able to convey and market a lifestyle through their packaging, demonstrating exclusivity.
Three Spirit’s passion for wellbeing, botanical alchemy and health is certainly reflected in their packaging. Their elixirs are non-alcoholic and use natural sources to provide a mood-enhancing experience. Partnering with Verallia to create their bespoke packaging, they reflected a wellness-centred lifestyle in their bottle design. Modelled after an olden time medicine bottle, their labelling featured triangles reflecting the effects of each spirit. For example, their ‘Livener’ spirit uses a triangle facing upwards, as this is a mood-lifter. Their passion for wellness is also reflected in their sustainability ethos, using organic UV inks for decoration, having their bottles forged from primarily recycled glass, and opting for a lightweight bottle.
2025 is set to be an ambitious year for the spirit sector, ensure your glass packaging exceeds all expectations. Contact our experts to begin your journey to premium packaging.
