Verallia 2023: All Bottled Up
2023 has been a ground-breaking year for Verallia. It encompassed new product releases, new clients, and new staff members! A year on since the acquisition of Allied Glass we take a deep dive into all that our team has achieved over the past 18 months.
One Year Since the Acquisition
It has been nearly 18 months since Verallia acquired in Allied Glass and merged our strong values to create one cohesive team.
The acquisition has allowed our internal team to further expand their knowledge of the industry and secure new clientele across all sectors. Moreover, it has given us the opportunity to integrate into a larger international group, a European Leader in glass packaging for the food and beverage sector, allowing us to advance the long-term vision we started at Allied Glass.
We are looking forward to what the acquisition will bring in 2024 for both our UK and international team.
A Showstopping Year of Awards
While our products are always top of the line in our eyes, they have also received international recognition for ground-breaking designs in 2023. Here are the most notable awards our designs won last year:
Our Egg Royale Bottle won a Bronze award at the international PENTAWARDS in 2023 for its creative concept and innovative design. The bottle resembles a delicious chocolate Easter egg and features detailed embossing that creates a seamless look from the bottle cap to the base.
Isle of Barra’s bottle design for Atlantic Gin won the ‘Design of the Year’ at the Glass Focus Awards 2023. With its premium design that reflects the high-quality spirit contained within, Isle of Barra’s bottle shows how sustainable glass can be key to creating unique character.
Our CSR Report
As part of our commitment to both our employees and our plant, we released our 2022 CSR report in 2023, detailing our pioneering manufacturing techniques that are enhancing the circular nature of the glass packaging industry. The report focused on 4 primary topics that showcase Verallia’s international pledge to our wider communities:
- Enhancing the circularity of glass packaging
- How we are decarbonising our activities
- Our commitment to ensure a safe and inclusive work environment for all
- Stakeholder relationships at Verallia
At a glance, during the 12 months of 2022, our 10,000 employees, who are spread across 12 countries, produced 17 billion bottles and jars amounting to a net income of over €3.35 billion. Through their hard work, we are now Europe’s leading glass manufacturer and the world’s third-largest producer of glass packaging. Moreover, to keep in line with our values and reach our goal of reducing our CO2 emissions by 46% by 2030 compared to 2019, we have made business-wide changes that will allow us and our stakeholders to accelerate sustainability within the glass packaging sector.

Exciting Changes in the Verallia Operations Team
As we integrated into Verallia Group in 2023 we also implemented changes within our UK Senior Management Team to better align the leadership structure with our company objective to drive sustainable glass packaging production.
One of the major steps in these changes was the appointment of John Naughton as Verallia’s new UK Industrial Director. With 27 years in the glass packaging industry, John has led several rebuild projects including our recent redevelopment of our Leeds factory. He will now not only be responsible for translating Verallia’s operational improvement processes into the UK plants, but also building the teams around these areas of improvement. As well as working on the CapEx plan for future investments in decarbonisation and growth.
