The Back Story

Edinburgh gin collaborated with TV-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge to release a limited-edition bottle that reflects the inside story of Fleabag, the iconic one-woman show.  

The bottle aimed to “capture the wonder of Edinburgh through the lens of Fleabag” according to the spirits brand. 

Aside from this unique story, every penny of profit will be donated to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, aiming to create a new fund for artist talent for their recovery in 2022. 

We were given the honour of creating the exclusive bottle and ensuring it’s a true reflection of this amazing story.

Capturing Edinburgh

Whilst the contents of the bottle remained the same, what set this edition apart was the bottle’s artwork designed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It includes a hand-drawn illustration of Phoebe looking into Edinburgh’s night sky with hidden details intertwined in the imagery. With an overlay of handwritten ‘I Love You’ by Waller-Bridge alongside ‘It’ll Pass’ penned by Andrew Scott, the iconic actor who played Hot Priest.

Why Verallia?

The brand chose to work with us, due to our expertise in high-quality flexible decoration on a low-volume manufacturing quantity, as this would only require a small run due to its exclusivity.  

Our challenge was to effectively reflect the imagery within the bottle. To achieve this distinctive bottle, the bottle was intricately embossed, made in extra white flint at our Knottingley location.  

The decoration involved screen printing in one pass using four colours on the cutting-edge Kammann machine which utilises UV curing inks. The use of UV curing ensures precise print detail, which was critical with such an intricate design.  

The final result was a beautiful replica of the original design, presenting a double layer effect to give the Edinburgh skyscape depth, amongst a spot-lit solitary chair and an outline of Phoebe’s face.  

Aside from the beautiful look of the bottle, the sustainability aspect was also a strong consideration throughout the creation. No heavy metals were used in the inks, significantly reducing the carbon output from this bottle.

A Standing Ovation

For a bottle aimed to celebrate the arts and inject life back into the thriving community in Edinburgh, there is no doubt that that was what was achieved.  

This standout bottle sold out in just under two weeks and out of the 15,000 made, 15,000 were sold, helping them to achieve their impressive donation target.  

This project was more than just creating an exclusive bottle, it was giving back to the art world, through a work of art.

    18th of November marks International Poitin Day.

    Poitin is a traditional Irish spirit, typically distilled between 40%-70% ABV that dates back to 1st Century AD. Historically the spirit was outlawed in Ireland as a result of taxation in 1661, but more recently has had a revival, being legalised in 1997.

    Poitin carries an abundance of Irish heritage, being made with native ingredients such as barley, potatoes, and oats. Today Poitin is quickly gaining popularity, as it’s exported across countries, telling its story across borders.

    Embodying Irish craftsmanship, @DrinkMadMarchHare_ celebrates heritage in every bottle. They expertly produce smooth, authentic poitin, encompassed in a decadent glass bottle created by Verallia.

    Today marks an artistry that is often described as ‘fiercely Irish’.

    We are winners! 🥇

    Three of our decadent glass bottles were shortlisted for Glass Pack of the Year at the UK Packaging Awards.

    We are proud to announce, that after dominating the category with three bottles shortlisted, Verallia are the winners of Glass Pack of the Year, for @secretgardendistillery's botanical gin bottle! 👏

    The judges were complimentary of the use of recycled glass in this premium bottle, a sustainable alternative to traditional white flint. We are dedicated to sustainability, and this award recognises that our expertise can create packaging that exudes opulence whilst being sustainable.

    We also received commendation on our ‘Classic Laddie’ bottle, created for @bruichladdich. Another excellent example of sustainability hand-in-hand with sophistication, as they opted for a 34.47 % reduced-weight bottle.

    Well done to our talented team for crafting award-winning glass packaging that fuse sustainability and style!
